Apex Legends esports to get rid of 'battle bus' spawning

Apex Legends Global Series Split 2 will introduce a big update to its esports competitive circuit.

Apex Legends' esports scene may change completely after the celebration of the Apex Legends Global Series Split 1 Playoffs, which will take place from May 2 to May 5.

According to an already deleted Reddit post at r/CompetitiveApex, the ALGS Commissioner John Nelson informed the teams of the upcoming changes that will be introduced with the Apex Legends Global Series Split 2 — including changes to the POI system and the removal of drop ship.

Here's what to highight from the long message published on Reddit earlier today:

Preset Spawn System to be introduced to ALGS 2024 Split 2

Here's what we know so far about the Preset Spawn System in Apex Legends' esports circuit:

We finally feel as though we are able to adequately address each of these issues. The Preset Spawn System was introduced to the game in Tuesday's update and is playable in Private Matches. In this system, all teams are aligned to one of a possible twenty-nine specific drop locations on Storm Point or World's Edge. When additional maps are introduced to the ALGS, we will approach them in the same way. Each team drops simultaneously from a preset height above their POI. We hope to implement this system starting with the Split 2 Regular Season of the ALGS Year 4 Pro League. To do that, we're hoping you will test the various settings and provide us with specific settings feedback as well as general system feedback.

The first change will see the teams dropping on their specific drop location at a certain height that will make it impossible for teams to fly to enemy POIs. While this wasn't an option in previous patches, Apex Legends' most recent update has included this possibility.

Creation of a POI Draft

According to the message, Apex Legends will introduce a POI Draft in the ALGS 2024 Split 2.

We plan to implement a POl Draft for each day of the Pro League and each round of LAN events. Each Pro League day 1-9 would have a snake draft. Over the course of a team's six Pro League days, they would have some instances of picking early, some of picking in the middle, and some of picking late. This would all balance out by the end of Day 9. For the Regional Finals and LAN rounds, the draft order will be weighted by performance, with high performers/seeds drafting earlier and low performers drafting later. We believe this system will be more fair than the current, informal, process. We also believe it will serve as a greater test of skill given the expected result is a more varied list of landing locations per team. Teams will need to be able to efficiently loot, rotate, and win from more locations. Our goal, in most cases, will be to hold each draft weeks prior to competition to allow for as much POl practice as possible.

The idea behind this addition is to make things more even and controlled. Following a "snake draft system," teams would be able to pick earlier or later depending on the week of the competition. For instance, a team that started choosing in first place in the first day of action will end up choosing in ninth place in the final day.

When teams choose earlier, they will obviously select the best areas on the map. Meanwhile, the teams that vote in the latter stages of the draft will get the weakest areas. By the conclusion of the ninth day, every team will have had the same chances, which is the main idea behind the draft.

More information will be added to this article as soon as Apex Legends release an official statement regarding the future of their esport top flight. We expect more announcements to come in the ALGS 2024 Split 1 Playoffs, which will be played in May 2024.
